RetroGeek : Geek Icons : Nokia 3310

The Nokia 3310 is an iconic device. Whenever someone thinks of phones before 2007 the image of the Nokia 3310 comes to mind. With it’s monochrome 84*48 pixel screen and week-long lasting battery, the Nokia 3310 is a a fond memory in everyone’s minds.

It was, is and will always be one of the best selling phones of all time. It along with the Nokia 1100 helped bring mobiles to the masses. It had two key features, two features that can never be bested by any phone, no, not even by today’s feature packed smartphones : Durability and Battery life. While the Nokia 3310 can run happily with nary a mark after being thrown, tossed and run over, today’s phones with their big glass screens are damaged , in some some cases, beyond repair when subject to the same conditions. The Nokia 3310 has a week long battery life, one that is unheard of these days. Today’s phones, offer what, a few hours of usage? That is a paltry number compared to the Nokia 3310 . Nokia was an iconic company known for making durable phones ; The legacy of the 3310 is such that many people still flock to the aging Manufacturer to buy  it’s Lumia smartphones, thinking that the Lumias are still as durable as their older counterparts .The popularity of the Nokia 3310 also skyrocketed something into cult statue : The Snake game . Everyone knows it, everyone loves it. The Snake game was one of the earliest implementations of mobile gaming.

Nokia is one of the oldest players in the industry and looking at it’s current state, it is falling, proving that even Titans may fall.

Nokia just has to tap into it’s mobile making expertise and start churning out smartphones that are durable. Smartphones that are iconic. Smartphones that can be remembered .
