SanDisk packs a Mammoth 512GB in its Latest SD Card: 1000 TImes from what SanDisk had a Decade ago

Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Memory Card

In 2003, SanDisk had unveiled its 512MB SD Card, which was cutting edge at that time. In 2003, Flash Storage was limited and expensive. Fast forward a Decade to 2014, SanDisk unveiled the Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I, which packs in a whopping 512GB in SD Card Form Factor.

That is the most anyone has been able to cram in an SD Card. Nothing else comes close. And for that, you need to pay the price: $799.

It has a Read Speed of 95MB/Sec and Write Speed of 90MB/Sec. It is rugged too: Shock Proof, Dust Proof and Water Proof.

If you are thinking that this is a niche product and the storage is overkill, well, you are wrong. Yes, the Price is prohibitive, but as Prices come down and 4K becomes popular, such high capacity SD Cards will go mainstream. 4K Video takes up 5 Gigabytes per Minute of Video, meaning that we need more capacities than those offered by current solution.

What do you think of SanDisk’s latest SD Card?
