Mozilla’s Firefox OS is a lightweight Operating System designed to run on low-end Phones. It relies heavily on Web Frameworks such as HTML5, and aims to provide a Smooth Experience while consuming the least amount of resources.
Firefox OS does not run Android or iOS Applications, and instead relies more on Web Apps.
KDDI, a Japanese Carrier, has announced Japan’s first Firefox OS Phone: The Fx0, and boy, does it look good! It has a transparent Design, making it look really cool.
It has a 4.7 Inch IPS Display, and has all the usual Radios built-in (NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi).
Underneath, there is only a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 Processor combined with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of Storage, which may not seem like much, but the Fx0 is the most powerful Firefox OS Phone till now.
Firefox OS Phones till now have been hitting very low pricepoints, with many selling for under $50. It seems KDDI’s Fx0 will be the first one to defy this trend, by selling for 50,000 yen ($420). Most of the Cost is probably due to the transparent Design, which looks really gosh darn good.
What do you think? Will the Fx0 Phone be successful despite its high-price and lack of features?
