To ensure your Files would not be accessible by anyone, follow these steps:

1.) You have to divide your Hard Drive Space into Partitions (C: Drive, D: Drive, etc).
2.) When installing an OS, choose to install on a Partition, rather than to format the whole system. Click on an unused Partition,
3,) After the OS is installed, you will be given a choice of Operating Systems during Boot. You select the one you desire to use.

You must be careful wen downloading Programs, they may contain spyware. Install a good Antivirus like Avast, and keep it updated. Do not open suspicious Emails, and use a Program like TOR to mask your IP Address.

It is not possible to restore them after so much time. If you had done it within some days, then it would have been possible, but after Months, the space has probably been written on, and so the Data is lost forever.
