Facebook making Snapchat competitor

Facebook has a deep, deep obsession with Snapchat. It has tried unsuccessfully to buy Snapchat several times and then finally released an app which offered disappearing messages, just like Snapchat in 2012. It was named Poke.

But Facebook was late to the party, Poke never really pulled users away from Snapchat. Facebook finally shut down Poke recently.

Facebook acquires Whatsapp for USD 19 Billion

You may have heard in the news that teens are leaving Facebook in droves and switching to other services like Whatsapp and Snapchat for communication. Facebook, evidently concerned by this, has bought up Whatsapp for 16 billion dollars, with additional 3 billion dollars in stock units for the employees.
